I recently read an article that said that Grant had a piece of his chin removed because his jaw was affecting his breathing. The article also said he had bands put on his teeth to correct an
overbite. It was talking about his odd illnesses (the bands apparently caused him mouth ulcers which caused sinus and throat infections - his weak

GRANT Hackett, the fourth fastest 400m freestyler in history, is preparing to ditch the event to give himself a clear shot at three gold medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics. "The 400m is an event I really enjoy, but if I want to do well in my 800m and 1500m freestyle, I'm going to have to consider dropping it closer to the next Olympics," Hackett said.

There was this article about Denis Cottrell who had some weird illness (I think it wasa viral infection) that left him in hospital unable to use his muscles. It was going to take months for him to get back to normal - if ever. Grant's comment was that he was still training to Denis's program, but that he missed Denis's motivation fromthe sidelines. HOOLIGANS have forced swim star Grant Hackett and his family from their Gold Coast home. Australia's 1500m Olympic champion has had enough of the rumours and innuendo, the false complaints to his father, eggs being thrown at the house and abuse in shopping centres. Hackett and his family will move out of their home on a busy Gold Coast street into a secure estate. "You've got people who criticise you driving around in your car, I've had stories where I've been to a party and got really drunk, but I've been in Sydney," he shrugged. "We've had our house egged before and stuff like that but doesn't that happen to everyone? "What do you expect when you're well known? "Every single person on the Gold Coast seems to know where I live." Hackett insisted that the trouble makers were a minority. "Ninety-nine point nine per cent of people are great," Hackett said. "Every athlete cops it; Thorpey, Cathy, Patrick Rafter. I've spoken to them all about it. "But we are moving into a secure estate. "We've lived in the same place for 11 years and it's great to have all this support but you get to a point where you get hassled a fair bit. "Some people can't help being jealous . . . I almost take it as a compliment."
